The UFC women’s MMA bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been gaining a lot of popularity to those women fighters who want to get a shot at the title she is currently holding. So far, Miesha Tate has been one of the most popular fighters getting lined up against Rousey. There are a lot more out there who has the potential to fight Rousey in the future, but there’s one distinct fight who wants it more than anything- Amanda Nunes.
Nunes did an excellent job in defeating mixed martial arts contender Sara McMann using submission last UFC Fight Night 73 held in Nashville, Tennessee. Like Rousey, Nunes was able to win over her opponent using properly-timed moves that finished the ex-Olympian in just the first round.
Due to her impressive winning streak, Nunes thinks that she is getting closer to her goal to being given the chance to go up against Ronda Rousey for the bantamweight title. Nunes further admitted that if Rousey will not be on her next goal yet, then she has no problems going back to the octagon and beat her next opponent.
Here is what Nunes said in a recent interview.
“I’m close now, you know? I see she has a fight coming up. If I have to have one more fight, I will take it. Whatever happens, I am going to be ready. I keep getting better. I have pretty good striking. My background is jiu-jitsu and I’ve been training judo my whole life, too. But, I think it’s going to be a very good match. I had my background in judo and jiu-jitsu like Ronda. She is now better in striking, so it is going to be good.”
Nunes said that it would be better for her to show her interest on Rousey’s title by showing how good she fights instead of just talking trash to her opponent, like Bethe Correia. She also admitted that she is more than willing to beat down every MMA contender that comes in her way just to make to the championship.
“I think I deserve a title shot, or maybe someone close to it. I don’t need to talk. I’m going to step into the cage and do my thing. My next fights are going to be like this: I’m going to win more bonuses and knock people out. For sure, I’m going to have my title shot soon. I’ll take it. Cat, Alexis Davis. There are a lot of girls in the top five that I would take,” she added.
